FROM OUR NEW TEAM VICAR DESIGNATE

Hello to everyone in the Dart and Avon Mission Community! I am writing this by way of introduction, as I will shortly be joining you as your new Team Vicar, with particular responsibility for South Brent and Rattery – and I can’t wait! I have just taken my last service in one of the five village churches where I currently serve as curate, and it has all become very real – only a few more weeks until I move. I hope to move down at the beginning of June although I am not formally Licensed until June 12th at a service at 7pm in Saint Petroc’s. Everyone is very welcome to the service and I am looking forward to meeting many of you then.

I currently live in a village near Newmarket in Suffolk and have been working in London for the last few years as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England. So I will be exchanging the long commute and the business of Whitehall for a very different and welcome way of life.

I am not entirely new to the area as I lived in Rattery for a short time twenty years ago. I never thought that I would be returning as its Vicar – but the Lord works in wonderful and often very unexpected ways. Whilst many things will have changed in the time I have been away, I am sure much will be the same – the warmth of the people, the fantastic countryside, the wide selection of places to eat, and of course the much loved churches. I look forward to reacquainting myself with all of these.

So please do look out for me from early June – I am likely to be accompanied by my brown and white collie dog who is very friendly and often comes with me to church events. Please do introduce yourself, and forgive me if I don’t immediately remember names – I will have a lot to remember!

I am really looking forward to getting to know the parishes in the Mission Community and meeting you all. In the meantime may I wish you all God’s blessings and I look forward to being with you very soon.
